Playmaker Star, Harrison Phillips, Sets a Shining Example of Youth Mentorship

From the age of 12, Harrison was focused on a singular goal – he wanted to play in the NFL. After graduating from Stanford in 2017, Harrison started 2018 with his draft to a major league team – The Buffalo Bills. Harrison had many accomplishments while playing football at Stanford, all while carrying a full load of classes to complete his double major.

On the field his nickname is Horrible Harry, out in the community he is far from it.

Young people need to reach for the stars. Youth mentors like Harrison Phillips who demonstrate honesty, upstanding character traits, and commitment to their family and team of supporters are the living examples of the core of The Playmakers principles.

Harrison was interviewed before the recent My Cause My Cleats game explaining why he has chosen The Playmakers as his cause. In this video (below), Harrison talks about how working with our Lil’ Pups fulfills him: “When I met these kids in third grade, most of them were at a first grade reading level, and by the time they were leaving fifth grade, they were on pace and reading at a fifth grade level. That was remarkable in itself but to see the character change and the maturity that came along with that….to meet a 3rd grader who wouldn’t look me in the eye and didn’t care anything about me, to coming back and they want to shake my hand, look me in the eye and ask me questions in such a respectful way. Those type of things give me so much encouragement and hope for the future of these young people.”

With his new life in New York with the Bills, Phillips’ role is shifting, and he is excited to highlight The Playmakers from a much larger platform. We are so appreciative for this young man and the assistance he has provided for our organization.

Harrison has continued helping his new community with the Buffalo Bills. He joined in on the NFL Flag Football powered by USA Football: helping mold healthier kids, more engaged families, and a closer community.
